The Inspiration Behind Belle Inn & Studios

Belle Inn & Studios began with a woman named Belle.
My grandmother, Eula Belle Wallace Stratton Damren, lived in a small cottage in rural Maine. It wasn't luxurious. It wasn't a destination resort. But it was one of the places in the world where I felt most at peace.
When I think of Grammie Belle, I remember homemade biscuits, baked beans, pickles from her garden, fresh-cut flowers on the table, and afternoons spent sewing, reading, or simply sitting together. I remember the smell of wood smoke from her stove and the comfort of knowing I was welcome exactly as I was.
Her home offered something that feels increasingly rare today: permission to rest.
Years later, after a career spent helping people navigate illness, disability, workplace challenges, and major life transitions, I came to understand how many people are living with invisible burdens.
Chronic illness. Burnout. PTSD. Caregiving responsibilities. Sensory overwhelm. Exhaustion that sleep alone doesn't fix.
My own journey with complex PTSD, persistent post-concussion symptoms, migraines, and neurovisual conditions gave me an even deeper appreciation for how difficult it can be to find environments that truly support rest.
Most lodging is designed around activity, entertainment, and productivity. Very little is designed around recovery.
Belle Inn & Studios was created to change that.
Our vision is simple: a place where people can slow down, breathe deeply, and experience genuine comfort. A place designed with accessibility, sensory considerations, quiet spaces, and restorative experiences in mind. A place where guests can read a book, work on a craft project, take a nap, enjoy a home-style meal, or simply sit in silence without feeling pressured to do more.
Every detail is inspired by the lessons I learned from Belle: that comfort matters, that kindness matters, and that sometimes the greatest gift we can offer another person is a place where they feel safe enough to rest.
Belle Inn & Studios is more than a lodging business.
It's a tribute to a grandmother who taught me what hospitality truly means and a commitment to creating that same feeling for others.
Welcome to Belle Inn & Studios.
Comfort. Quiet. Rest.
